Lovingly we Learn in Harmony

We are Linguists

Over the last ten years a specialist French teacher has taught French to our students. Across our teaching staff we have a variety of different nationalities and we believe that it is important for children to experience different cultures and languages.  This year, following pupil voice and the % of children taking German in high school, we have decided to teach a German curriculum.  From  The teaching of German links with our local High school, where they teach: French, German and Spanish.  As part of the children's transition to High school our Year 5 and 6 children also attend Spanish sessions.  Our children often learn verses of well known songs in different languages such as German and Ukraine.

The overall curriculum plan for KS2 German has the following design:

  • Time allocation:
    • 60 minutes per 2 week in total.
  • The three strandsThree strands woven together and labelled phonics, vocabulary and grammar
    • phonics and grammar repeat in Y3 & 4 and then again in Y5 & 6
    • vocabulary varies (so that lessons themselves are different)
  • Structure ( 2-year rolling)
    • the repetition of phonics and grammar content together with the variation in vocabulary makes it possible for the years Rot and Gelb to be completed in either order, and the same for Blau and Grün.

We are currently Working on Year 3 (Rot) in both classes 2024- 2025

Year 4 (gelb) 2025 -2026

We will then move to a two year rolling programme.
