At our school we strive for all children to have a love for writing. We focus on the writing process, knowledge and creativity of an author and how we can use their talents and skills to be authors ourselves. Writing is taught in our English lessons and across the wider curriculum. We write for purpose, for fun and for particular audiences. We especially love our story creating time at the beginning of each term. We follow a writing policy which has been developed in line with the EEF (Education Edowment Foundation) and follows a structured writing process. It enables our children to be confident with practising and embedding skills in avariety of writing genres. Narrrative, Persuasion, Recount, Instructions, Discussion, Explanation and Report. |
Our Writing Policy
Writing in EYFS
At St Mary’s, we use high quality, engaging texts and resources to develop children’s love for writing and to see themselves as writers. Writing tools and resources are embedded within all areas of the EYFS classrooms to provide children with early opportunities of mark making through play based situations as soon as they start their learning journey in our 2-year old provision. Once children in Reception develop their Phonics knowledge and become more confident in using that knowledge, they engage in more structured adult-led writing activities that are adapted to all children’s needs and abilities.
Below picture shows the overview of core texts we use in EYFS. This is also withing our whole school writeing genre progression and take on book.
