Welcome to Class 3's Page
Welcome to Class Puffin’s page! We have had a fantastic start to the Autumn Term and we are so pleased to be back at school.
We have decided to be called Class Puffin this year as they are beautiful and unforgettable (although sometimes rather clumsy). Puffins are a red-listed bird species. This means there has been a severe decline in the population of puffins over the last 25 years. This is due to fishing and pollution. As a class we are hoping to raise awareness and help save these beautiful birds and our environment.
We are thoroughly enjoying our our Class novel ‘Stig of the Dump’ which links with our Stone Age topic. Lots of our learning is taking place outdoors and we have been enjoying the lovely Autumn weather.
We have had a very busy start to the year. We have really enjoyed reading the book 'Swallows and Amazons' by Arthur Randsome as the setting was based on Coniston Lake. We have learned lots about our locality this term and we researched and prepared a 5 minute speech on our local area. We went on a Class trip to the Dock Museum in Barrow to learn about the history of the Furness Railway. We have enjoyed going swimming once a week and lots of the children have achieved distance certificates. Our Fantastic YEar 3/4 hockey team played brilliantly against all the other locl schools and were crowned winners! We have worked really hard with Mrs Crellin to produce our very own pop up books in DT and have loved exploring and performing the music of ABBA in our music lessons. The children all performed brilliantly at Church during our Nativity - I'm Gonna Shine' with several children from Class 3 singing solo parts. We are so proud of you all.
This term we have had great fun with our History topic - 'Ancient Egypt'. We even experienced a mummification in the hall, which I'm sure the children will all remember for a very long time! We have enjoyed reading the novel ' Secrets of a Sun King' by Emma Caroll and learning all about the explorer Howard Carter and his discovery of the intact tomb of Tutankhamun in 1922. Our trip to Lakeside YMCA was fabulous and we took part in lots of adventurous activities including rock climbing and the 'King Swing'. Father Paul came t talk the children to help them gain a deeper understanding of what happens during Mass. The children have enjoyed taking part in various sporting activities at Dowdales during this term including Cross Country.
Well, what an unexpected end to the school year. We are so proud of all of our Class 3 children and how hard they have worked at home. We have really enjoyed hearing all about the new skills you have been learning during lock down and seeing the work you have produced. We hope you enjoyed taking part in our school virtual sports day and the Young Voices workshops. We can't wait to see you all in September. Have a very well earned break in the summer holidays and enjoy the sunshine. Take care and stay safe xXx
